(... refers to the engagement ring)
The tradition of an engagement ring is now entering the Bulgarian market. The engagement ring is different than the wedding band and is given when the couple is getting engaged as the name suggests. In Bulgaria, contrary to some of the Western cultures, the wedding band is worn on the right hand. Thus, the engagement ring should be worn on the left hand before the marriage.
Once you are married the engagement ring goes on the other hand and is usually worn on the same finger as the wedding band as a sign that you are not only engaged but married.
The stone used for the engagement ring is usually a diamond. Diamonds are priced according to carat weight, color, clarity and cut, shape, and size.
The dimond ring was a MUST in Western cultures but nowadays more and more people here try to follow the tradition as well. Here are a few rules that people apply and you should know.
From Hollywood movies we get the conception that men buy the rings and give them as a surprise present to thier future wives. Since the unwritten but common rule in Western cultures says that the engagement ring’s price should equal around two-month’s salary of the groom-to-be, oftentimes men ask their girlfriends for their expectations of the ring so that they can buy the right one. The lady may not be surprised but she will get the ring of her dreams.
One of the most popular styles of the engagement ring is the princess cut or the cut when the diamond looks like square. Diamond rings fall into categories depending on the stone/stones used. The solitaire is a one-stone ring, there can be three-stone settings where the three more or less equal diamonds are put in a line, as well as rings with side stones. One of the most valuable engagement rings are Tiffany& Co.’s diamond rings.
