Welcome to a magical and warm place in the heart of Sofia! A place with soul and "stuffed" with a lot of talent and artistry. "The Little Salon" or speaking in French "Le petit salon" is a cozy art shop, where even the Little Prince would have stopped by to consider handheld beauties, read literature, enjoy art or just chat with friends and kind people. Without fluff or unnecessary splendor. In "The Little Salon" everything is here because that is the right place to be. Because it is specially selected and arranged with the proper touch and uniqueness. This beautiful urban space exists and inspires for a year now. The first association that strikes you cross the entrance of “ The Little Salon” is of magic, fairies and cotton candy. This little gem makes you forget the winter chill out and it makes you feel dizzy in a positive way almost instantly and irrevocably. That's why once got there cannot help but come back.
Bonjours, dear fairies!
“ The Little Salon” has such an unique atmosphere, something that everyone has to experience for themselves, because the feeling cannot be described in words. Actually, "Le Petit Salon" is a big brother of the town of Sozopol’s well-known "Feyski shop" which has been residing happily in the Old Town of Sozopol for four summers already. Two sisters have turned all this magic. Lilly and Tita. Yes, Tita, with her rag dolls and Lily with her sewing machine. They both love everything French, so named it with the French name "Le Petit Salon". It suits them! Cozy, floating, around everywhere, white, neatly curated with taste, just as house fairies. Minimalist hand made beauties "fly" everywhere: earrings, necklaces, bracelets, brooches ..... porcelain, lace, pottery, paper ... and similar materials the artists have chosen.
Location
Location for such type of a store is very important. That is why finding the place in the old house on Tsar Ivan Asen II street, where they are based, took them two years. For a long time the two sisters were looking around precisely a space with that type of charater and as soon as they saw the sign "For Rent" they have rolled up their sleeves for one month and the salon was ready to go. It was definitely worth waiting. On December 3 last year (2011), the salon opened doors for the wintertime everyday except for Sundays from noon to 8 p.m.
Artists
They represent artists from Plovdiv, Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo. Most of the artists are their own friends, but that is not the criterion. What matters most is to offer goods that are not being offered anywhere else. When an author comes to work with them, the first question Lily is how many other places offer their work. Because here, at the salon, they rely on exclusivity. They make careful selection of art work, "Afterall, we look at them every day," Lily says while laughing. They also have a workshop with a sewing machine and when Lily has an inspiration she sits down and creates some textile accessories, jewelry, a notebook, or a baby blanket.
What is so good about it?
To manage “ The Little Salon” is a great and rewarding pastime suitable only for fairies! You've got your own place and your freedom. And you manage to survive in the current complicated situation with the culture and art. However, the two ladies want to stress that their work is not like managing a store at the mall. They like to do it and they believe that if they are diligent, the results will turn out well. Satisfied are the customers too who, in Lily’s words are great and kind and always come back. They wouldn’t say that they are fighting competition or are being very aggressive. They do what they can and try to make the salon look cozy so that people come back. The difference between this shop and the one in Sozopol is in the market. In the summer, there are foreign tourists who come with some slightly different tastes and attitudes. And here in Sofia, things are a bit more conceptual. And you have to make an effort and have the desire to go in the salon. This experience is similar to visiting them for a cup of tea.
Events
As a place that accommodates cultural event, the last one organized there goes by the name of "ReCover - the sequel." By December 16, 2012 you can enjoy posters of their favorite book covers created by Raicho Stanev. Forthcoming is an exhibition of young artists and all endeavors related to inspiration and art in all its forms.
